A home has suffered significant damage after a fire Friday afternoon.
The call came in at approximately 5:05 p.m. on April 15 of a house fire in the Mount Rae area in northwest Okotoks and when crews arrived they found a home in flames.
"We responded with two engines and on arrival it was working structure fire, a bungalow which was actually isolated in a few acres," said Okotoks Fire Chief Trevor Brice.
"We've got crews committed inside searching the building and the main floor and some of the basement has been affected.
"As far as I'm aware, there's no people hurt, no humans, but unfortunately there's two dogs that were brought out that are deceased."
The home, Brice added, suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage, including damage to the roof where firefighters had to cut into it with a chainsaw to vent the fire.
"The heat and the smoke that's involved in the fire, we need to clear that so we can then check for hot spots," he said. "Although there's significant damage to the roof now as well, it stops the fire from spreading elsewhere and it enables the crews to go inside and work."
Additional resources were called from Black Diamond, and as of 6:30 p.m. the fire was mostly out and crews were tackling hot spots.
No other structures were threatened or damaged and the cause has not been determined at this time.
