The Okotoks swimming pool reopened Saturday following a closure last week.
Swindell’s leisure pool at the Okotoks Recreation Centre was closed from Nov. 17-24 after an issue with the chlorine system was discovered, the Town said in a Nov. 17 news release, and subsequent update.
After consultation with Alberta Health Services (AHS) over the past week, a Nov. 25 update indicated the pool is healthy, safe, and ready for swimmers.
A water sample collected on Nov. 14 showed a higher than normal bacteria count.
The closure was done in cooperation with AHS, which said there was minimal risk to anyone who recently visited the pool and that the issue occurred outside of public hours.
“The health and safety of our community is our top priority, and as such, the decision to close the pool has been made in accordance with industry standards and guidelines,” Daniel Robinson, Town of Okotoks recreation operations manager, said at the time of the closure.
“Routine water quality testing revealed higher than acceptable levels of heterotrophic plate count (HPC), necessitating immediate action to address and rectify the situation,” Robinson said.
The Riley Minue pool, hot tub and sauna were not affected.
