Cavalry FC's success is proving to go well beyond the pitch during its breakthrough 2024 season in the Canadian Premier League.
The recently crowned league champions earned a number of recognitions at the CPL Business Awards held virtually on Nov. 26 with Cavalry FC voted Club of the Year, president and chief operating officer Ian Allison named Business Executive of the Year along with the team earning the Social Media Activation of the Year nod.
"Cavalry continued to set the standard for success during the 2024 CPL season, leading all clubs among several business metrics and showing consistent growth in a variety of areas," the CPL said in its release.
"The club positioned itself as best-in-class in terms of partnership servicing and execution, as well as community engagement. And it continued to show its commitment to building a soccer industry in Calgary and in Canada through its Sunrise, Sunset program, which helps players transition to off-field roles once their time on the pitch has ended."
Allison, the president and COO of Cavalry FC and Spruce Meadows, was recognized for his business excellence.
"Through his consistent and engaged leadership, Allison has developed Cavalry into a premier club in the CPL. A perennial contender on the field, Cavalry is also an example for all CPL clubs off the field thanks in large part to Allison’s influence. His dedication to the organization has been instrumental to the club’s growth in all areas of business development," the release added.
For the Social Media Activation nod, Cavalry FC's Marvel Matchday Content was highlighted.
"Cavalry’s Marvel Super Hero Matchday was supported by a robust social media campaign that leveraged the widespread appeal of Marvel characters to excite fans and enhance the club’s matchday theme," the release added. "The club’s highly innovative content plan included dynamic graphics, engaging polls, fan interaction, and exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses of the event, seamlessly integrating Marvel’s iconic themes into the Cavalry brand narrative and drawing significant attention to the match and its associated activations."
Cavalry FC also led the CPL in top jersey sales and top merchandise revenue growth and percentage.
At the CPL Awards earlier in the month in Calgary, centre back Daan Klomp took home the Defender of the Year award for the second consecutive season while striker Tobias Warschewski was presented with the Golden Boot Award as the CPL's top talisman with 12 goals during the 2024 campaign.
Cavalry FC will be back on the pitch in February 2025 as qualifiers for the Concacaf Champions Cup, featuring the top club teams from North America, Central America and the Carribean.
