Playoff soccer is officially on deck for Cavalry FC.

Needing a single point from its remaining fixtures to secure one of five Canadian Premier League playoff berths, the Cavs took care of business with a 0-0 draw versus Vancouver FC Saturday evening at Spruce Meadows’ ATCO Field.

“We’re a bit disappointed we didn’t win tonight, I think we created enough chances to do that,” said Cavalry FC goalkeeper Marco Carducci. “But we know the playoff system and getting in is what counts at the end of the day, we did enough to do that.

“We’ll enjoy that, but there’s still a bit to go in terms of seeding and all of that.”

Carducci picked up his ninth clean sheet of the season on Saturday, extending the Cavs’ unbeaten run at home to six games. Cavalry’s run of fixtures without losing to Vancouver has now stretched to nine contests.

Cavalry (9-12-4) joins Forge and Atletico Ottawa as playoff qualifiers with the fourth and fifth seeds up for grabs entering the final two weeks of the regular season.

Forge owns an eight-point lead on both Ottawa and Cavalry in the race for the CPL Shield.

The Cavs, the regular season champions in 2023 and 2019, have made the playoffs in all six of their seasons.

The CPL playoff format sees the top five teams advance with the top four guaranteed at least one home game in the postseason.

Cavalry opens the final stretch of the season on Oct. 5 at Pacific before its home finale on Oct. 12 against Halifax.
