The Okotoks Dawgs were dominant on the road, sweeping the Fort McMurray Giants during a four-game stint in Oil Country that wrapped up on Sunday.

The series finished with an 8-7 win for the Dawgs, who sit atop the West Division of the Western Canadian Baseball League standings with a 17-2 record, 2.5 games up on the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

Okotoks-born Connor Crowson led the Dawgs offence on Sunday with two RBIs and two runs, while Dawgs Academy alumni Jacob Wrubleski added another pair of runs.

Pitcher Seth Thompson shut the door in the ninth inning, allowing no hits and throwing one strikeout to preserve the one-run lead.

The Dawgs beat the Giants 9-1 in the third game of the series on Saturday that saw Crowson drive in four runs.

Dawgs pitchers threw eight strikeouts and allowed one run over nine innings, with Garett Maloney striking out four batters and allowing one hit over five innings.

Meanwhile, at Okotoks’ Seaman Stadium on Saturday, fans got a look at up-and-comers during the Futures Game that saw Dawgs Academy players go head-to-head.

The Dawgs welcome the Sylvan Lake Gulls for a home game on Tuesday and have road games against the Lethbridge Bulls and Edmonton Prospects on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, before returning to Seaman Stadium for a four-game homestand.

The homestand begins on Friday, June 28 against the Medicine Hat Mavericks and ends with a Canada Day game against the Swift Current 57’s.
