Okotoks Dawgs hosting 15U Canada Day Classic

Okotoks Dawgs Academy team going for third straight tournament title

The Okotoks Dawgs Academy’s summer showcase comes with a shot at a three-peat.

The annual 15U AAA tournament runs from June 28 to July 1 at Tourmaline Field, Conrad Field and Riverside Field featuring 16 teams from three provinces, including the two-time defending champion Dawgs.

Along with provincial rivals in the Calgary Cubs, Webber Wildcats, PBA Jr. Bulls, Olds Spitfires, Sherwood Park A’s and Edmonton Expos, the competition features UBC’s junior squad along with a strong Saskatchewan contingent with seven squads from Canada’s breadbasket descending upon Okotoks for the long weekend.

Okotoks Black and Okotoks Red will form the home teams for the four-day competition.

The round-robin moves to the playoff round on June 30 with the gold medal final slated for 10 a.m. on July 1 at Conrad Field.

Over at Seaman Stadium, the WCBL leading Okotoks Dawgs are home for four games over the weekend with a two-game set versus the Medicine Hat Mavericks on June 28-29 followed by two in a row versus the Swift Current 57s on June 30 and July 1, the latter of which is the Dawgs’ annual Canada Day Game punctuated by post-game fireworks.
