The Okotoks Mavericks Swim Club held its season opener Jack Frost Meet at the Brookfield Residential YMCA in Seton.

The Okotoks Mavericks made a splash in their first crack at competition swimming.

The Mavericks’ annual Jack Frost meet, held at the Brookfield Residential YMCA in Seton, saw the club produce over 95 per cent new and best times along with a number of qualification standards and a club record established.

Georgia Baldwin broke the 8-and-under girls 50m backstroke record, a mark that stood for five years, with a 44.69 seconds swim.

Oscar Bednarz, Slade Diakiw, Mary Giuffre, Declan Harrison, Charlotte Johnson, Peyton Jones, Mikayla Paul, Lucy Wiens and Jenna Willey all produced championship qualification standard swims.

Additionally, Tanner Donnelly, Ayden Gautier, Leah Hunter, Katherine John, Jerome Ling, Gavin Pacitti and Carson Vollman earned provincial qualification standards with Dane Gardner and Clay Johnston claiming festival qualification standards.

The Mavericks scored 26 gold medals, 20 silver and 18 bronze medal finishes. Charlotte Johnston and Wiens each had five gold with Ling, Jones and Bednarz adding four gold.

This week, the Mavericks head to central Calgary for the Cascade Speed Meet at the MNP Community Sport Centre.
