A roaring return to the national championships starts this weekend for an Okotoks skip.

Atina Ford Johnston and Team Alberta are in Moncton, N.B. from Dec. 1-7 competing in the 2024 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships.

Team Alberta — which also features vice-skip Shannon Morris from Sherwood Park, second Sheri Pickering from Irricana and lead Cori Morris out of Calgary — competed at last year’s senior nationals.

The squad finished fourth in Vernon, B.C. with Ford Johnston earning MVP honours among skips at the event.

For the 2024 finals, Alberta is in Pool B alongside B.C., Ontario, P.E.I., N.W.T., Yukon and Nunavut. The opening draw sees B.C. and Alberta collide on Sunday.

The Alberta foursome brings considerable championship pedigree to the pebbled ice.

Ford Johnston is an Olympic gold medallist as the alternate on the Sandra Schmirler rink that took the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano by storm along with a world championship title and junior world championship bronze on her resume. Cori Morris was part of Cheryl Bernard’s Olympic silver medallist squad at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.
