It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Irene Cuthbert, of Diamond
Valley, AB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the
age of 84 years.

Born on October 14, 1939, in NewWaterford, NS, Irene lived a life rich in love,
faith, and devotion. She met her husband, Fred Cuthbert, through a family
friend and were married for 64 years. They built a strong and loving family,
raising a son and three daughters. Irene was a dedicated wife, supporting
Fred as they moved from city to city for his career. Through every chapter,
she created a warm, welcoming home filled with love. They were best friends,
always by each other’s side, sharing meals, reading the paper together, and
finding joy in life’s simple moments. Their love was unshakeable and an
inspiration to all who knew them.

Irene’s greatest pride was raising strong, independent children, teaching them
that a home wasn’t about wealth, but about love, resilience, and family. A
devout Catholic, her faith was at the heart of everything she did. Her kindness,
compassion, and patience guided her family through all stages of life. She
was also an avid volunteer, giving back through various organizations and
sponsoring children from other countries with her husband, extending her
love beyond the walls of her home.

Irene’s talents were endless. She was an incredible seamstress, sewing
everything from her children’s wedding dresses to everyday clothes. Her
baking filled their home with warmth, and her love of card games created
cherished memories, especially during summer holidays. Each Christmas,
she knitted one-of-a-kind sweaters for her grandchildren, with every stitch
filled with love. She will be most remembered for her compassionate heart,
her strength, and the legacy of love she left behind.

Irene is survived by her three daughters, Susan of Vancouver, Carrie
(Jason Shannon), of Calgary, and Colleen also of Calgary; and her son Tony
Cuthbert, of Diamond Valley. She also leaves behind her beloved seven
grandchildren, Dominic, Sarah, Nolan, Gavin, Tyler, Jeremy, and Kristin; and two
great-grandchildren, Ash and Samuel. Irene is also survived by her brother
Daniel O’Brien of Vancouver. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Pat Smith and Rita O’Brien; her
brother Greg O’Brien, and her parents, Earl and Catherine O’Brien
