Lydia Hendry passed peacefully in the morning of July 22, 2024. She was 93 years old.

Lydia was born in the prairie town of Herbert, Saskatchewan to Gustav and Marianna Seib, who had immigrated from Prussia in the early 1900s. She was the fourth youngest of 17 children. In June 1954, Lydia moved to Ontario and married William James Marshall. Lydia and “Jim” Marshall raised four children: Murray Norman Marshall (Lynne), Douglas James Marshall (Shanna), Kathleen (Kathy) Anna Jane Reid (Gord) and Glenna Elaine Roth. They lived in Shelburne, Ontario and, for a time, on Manitoulin Island. Eventually, they were drawn back to western Canada and lived in Okotoks, Alberta.

In 2004, Lydia was remarried to Sidney Eric Hendry (Papa) and took up residence in Oliver, B.C. They lived in the Okanogan Valley for many happy years until Sid passed in 2018. Lydia then moved to Calgary and lived with her youngest daughter, Glenna (who predeceased Lydia in April 2024).

Lydia is survived by six grandchildren: Lauren Eileithyia Marshall, John William Bohdan Marshall, Michael James Anthony Reid, Tyler Joseph Mersereau, Jordon John Voser and Noah James Roth. Lydia took a special delight in her three great-grandchildren: Delilah Hope Reid, Emberlyn Faith Reid and Diana June Philipchuk.

At various times in her life, Lydia was a journeyman cook, a real estate agent, a housecleaner and homemaker. She was always the best mom:loving, funny, generous and stern when she needed to be. Lydia was an excellent cook and baker—her strawberry rhubarb pies were famous.

We loved her fiercely.
