It's nostalgic to think back to the good old days when newspapers only printed "factual news stories", but truth is newspapers were always biased, and their owners were always involved in politics. Newspapers depended on advertising for their revenue, and for local papers that included the classified ads. Once advertising migrated online, print newspapers were doomed. The reason the Calgary Herald was such a huge paper is because it was stuffed full of car dealerships and grocery store flyers.

E.B. Clarke is right. Most of the world would be happy to be in our "terrible situation". Now that Poilievre doesn't have Trudeau to complain about, people are beginning to see him for what he is, an annoying, whining loud-mouth. Much like his idol south of the border.

Good for you, Mr. Petersen for taking the time and making the effort to remind us of the true nature of Danielle Smith and her contemptible cronies, Brian Jean and Rebecca Schulz. This month Albertan's have seen not just her deceitful u-turn on coal-mining but also her craven kissing up to Trump and his goons as well as the ridiculous and reckless report on the COVID-19 pandemic. Let's just hope Albertans are paying attention.

Perhaps in Mr. Nelson's world the news of (yet) another postal strike was indeed greeted with "a barely noticeable shrug", but for the tens of thousands of small businesses in Canada the news will have been greeted with despair and anger. For them, using courier deliveries is financially ruinous and the strike, not coincidentally, is coming at the most critical time of their business cycle.

Tired of Noise is correct. Speed is not the problem, and in any event getting t-boned by someone travelling at 80 kph is unlikely to be any less terminal than if they were doing 110. The best solution is for drivers to use either the 2A interchange or the one at Hwy 7. That, sadly, is wishful thinking, so Tired of Noise's suggestion to close the medians is the best that can be expected.

Thank-you Mr. Rose for doing this. I'm sure the time and effort required were significant. Elma St. is a very special place and thanks to you it will be a little bit better protected from the schemes and designs of developers.

I agree wholeheartedly with both Mr. Neukom and Mr. Campbell. I've asked before who Chris Nelson is and why the Western Wheel, which usually shows good judgement in its editorial policy, gives space to his lazy, biased, derivative drivel. Perhaps someone at the Western Wheel would care to explain?

Without knowing how many people were polled, the methods used and the details of the questions asked, I'd rate this poll about as useful as the ones you see in newspapers like the Western Wheel; i.e. not very much.

I agree completely with Mr.Petersen's comments regarding our premier's idiotic and expensive meddling in our election process. As the old cliche goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I suspect she's placating, yet again, the Take Back Alberta crowd, ahead of her party's leadership review next month.
I'm less sure about his enthusiasm for proportional representation though. Recent evidence from Israel and Germany shows what can happen when the tail wags the dog.

I suspect this quote explains their motivation..“On top of that, Alberta has many beautiful private dental plans or dental plans managed through an employer. […] There’s a significant risk that this federal plan can damage or eliminate these beautiful plans that Canadians have gotten used to.” Beautiful private dental plans??? Sounds like Trump and his "beautiful tariffs."
