Instead of filling priority street driveways with windrows of snow 10 times a day, perhaps you can send a plow down the side streets which need it more. Designating priority routes because they are school bus pick-up and drop-off spots means nothing unless the kids can actually get on the bus without climbing over the chunks of snow that are windrowed 2-3 ft high up along the entire route. Why is it okay for the town to push huge chunks of ice and snow on our driveways and at school bus stops? Then, the residents (tax-payers) have to dig it out again so the bus drivers have safe place to drop off and pick up kids? Send a bobcat after your plow to clean up the mess left behind on priority routes. Then, the plows and graders can focus on the side streets that never get touched.
Asking if we want to spend more money on snow clearing is absurd. Maybe it’s time to re-think how to better manage how the roads are cleared.

Agreed! Clean to the curb is the mandate according to the Mayor and Operations Centre. So why is there a 8ft windrow on the road in front of my driveway for me to dig out that is 2-3 ft high every time it snows?
My taxes went up over $600 this past year. I don’t think we are getting value for dollars spent.

How about someone investing in a decibel meter, and actually cracking down on the noisy cars, trucks, motorcycles and leaf blowers that rule this town. I love waking up on a snow day to the sound of my neighbours gas blower, or their bobcat clearing the entire lane behind their house while pushing the snow onto the street at 5 am.

Having a spouse that has done snow removal in a Grader for 40 years, what happens in this town is pathetic. No-one on a priority route should have to dig their driveway out multiple times a day because the guy on the plow thinks that piling a huge windrow of snow in front of everyone one on a priority routes driveway multiple times a day is a great source of entertainment. The Town Operations Centre and Mayor Tanya don’t care, as per our phone conversations. I think they find it amusing. There are so many other streets in this town that need equipment to make their road pass-able, but we keep sending the same un-trained plow operators down the same streets. How about our tax dollars go towards skilled drivers, who actually know how to clear snow properly. I’ll lend you my husband for a few days if you can’t figure it out.

Funny how all the topics that were not election issues keep popping up as new policy. Gender, RCMP, Coal Mines, and Pension Plans. What’s next?
How about affordable housing, food, taxes, and heating/electric bills? Can we please put some policies in place that actually benefit the folks in this province? How much more will we have to pay in taxes?
I’ve seen what happens when different police forces do not communicate because of jurisdiction, ego’s or whatever. Robert Picton and Clifford Olsen come to mind.

Yet another meeting of the minds which brings no resolution to a problem that gets worse every year in this town. Lots of complaints, no reaction!
In the past few years, it has become unbearable to sit out on my back deck, or front porch on a nice sunny day due to the loud mufflers sounds of big trucks and modified cars alike. For what reason do you cut your muffler other than to be a menace to everyone in your neighbourhoods’ ears? 60’s and 70’s Muscle Cars have an admirable and distinguishable low growl which impresses me. Your little import car or jacked up monster truck doesn’t. Trying to make up for something you lack? Show up with a 1970 GTO or a 68 Firebird and I’ll be impressed! Excessive speed and loud muffler noise is something that can be controlled by law enforcement. Has education made anyone put their muffler back on?
Noise Bylaw Fines might. If this council thinks it doesn’t irritated the…out of taxpayers, it’s time to re-think what YOU think matters.

Ted, I suspect that you must have cashed out of the Delta real estate market at a very opportune time, allowing you to live very comfortably here. I’m not sure if you chose Okotoks because you wanted to live close to work, or because you liked the small town feel, but you chose it for your own reasons, as did everyone here. You have an opinion about unchecked and unlimited growth that lot of folks that live here actually DO oppose. This is our town too. Have you spent any time talking to the people that actually live here about the negative issues that affect all of us? Excessive speeds, racing, loud mufflers, overcrowded schools, lack of affordable housing, especially in the newly built areas. You don’t question large municipal tax increases, the high cost of gas and groceries, or how our utility bills continue to climb uncontrolled? I’d love you to comment of any of those issues.
As the Editor, you are obligated to cover both sides of the growth story. It’s not all roses.

I think if you were to dig a bit deeper, you would find that the bio-digester was already in the long term plan. Rimrock Feeders re-built and expanded the site with cement floors, making it easier to re-claim the manure which will then be fed into the digester. The bio-digester does not appear to be developed in response to the outrage over the offensive odours, but a long term plan to make huge profits without any input or consultation between Foothills County and the town of High River who share the same administration building.
