The George Traditional House is continuing its winning ways in Okotoks.

The renowned English pub has taken home gold for Best Bar or Pub and Best Wings/Appies in the 2024 Western Wheel Readers’ Choice Awards.

According to owner John Nicastro, the awards are a sign that The George is on the right track when it comes to being a beloved business.

“It’s flattering, it’s an honour,” he said. “The public, they’re the people that tell you if you're doing good or bad, so it's nice to see that they think we're doing a good job.”

Nicastro said the welcoming atmosphere of The George — which also won silver for Best Patio and bronze for Best Restaurant and Best Steakhouse — is part of why the spot is so popular in the community.

“We want people to feel like they're at home, that The George is home,” he said.

Nicastro is also glad to see people continue to praise the restaurant’s food with its win for wings.

“We buy the best of the best,” he said. “We're all about consistency, quality and value.”

Nicastro looks forward to The George continuing to do what it’s doing right, while continuing to give back to the community through its many charitable initiatives, including an annual charity golf tournament. The 2024 fundraiser raised $48,000 for the Okotoks School Lunch Program.

“The plans are to keep investing in our future and our community, keep on injecting into our community, supporting really good causes,” said Nicastro.

“I always call it the magic of Okotoks… I’m just thankful to be doing business in such an amazing town, and we're just really fortunate that we have such amazing community support.”
