My grandson and I were walking to his school bus stop when we encountered a buck who was following a female. We were quite intimidated by his demeanor and crossed the street to avoid him. On another note, a friend's dog was killed by a buck in Okotoks a few months ago. In Woodhaven they are multiplying quickly with females, having twins and triplets regularly. . We see them everywhere in small herds.
I don’t believe a word written here by this Dina Joy If a dog had been killed by a deer a few months ago,to the glee of all the deer haters here,it would have been front page news. 🤯
Woke: “Aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues, especially issues of racial and social justice.” -Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
I think we should be concerned if the council WASN’T, “woke.” Time to reclaim this title from those who would prefer ignorance, I think.
The number and behavior of deer are out of control. When spruce trees, lilacs, and grasses are part of their menu or destroyed with their hoofs or horns (that you spend $1,000's on), we need to live in individual compounds with 6' fences around our front yard as much as our back to enjoy our yards. The clean up of deer droppings is almost more than our two dogs and must be cleaned up routinely to be able to use sidewalks. Their droppings are nasty between their diet choice and people feeding them. They are wildlife that belong in the wild. For their safety also, as they are not scared of vehicles, people, or pets. Granted they do use the crosswalks on occasion but mostly its driver beware. We also we don't trust them around our dogs. Daily, it's 4 to 7 at a time either strolling or stampeding down our front yards. It's tiring to design and maintain beautiful yards, increase property value, and enjoy your neighbors out your front door when it's a mess and destroyed.
The count is way off I think. As a deer watcher on a daily basis I believe the numbers of deer have declined dramatically in the last couple of years. I think the counters are all counting the same deer.
WOKE: has been morphed to mean "skewing and or ignoring facts and history to suit a current or specific agenda". It has nothing to do with the population of deer in town.
If people don't like the deer, move elsewhere. The deer contribute charm to what's left of small-town Okotoks. Yes, they eat my plants. But I never get tired of seeing the little fawns at springtime, or a deer that is tucked up and made its nightly bed beside my house.
I’ll reiterate what I said yesterday that did not get posted (too late for publication?) I am sick and tired as a dog walker, trying to avoid the tonnes, and I do mean tonnes, of deer poop when my little 18 lb dog is trying to do his business on any of the grassy areas that I go to on a daily basis. In the almost 8 yrs of walking him, this year is the absolute worse! But what’s even more concerning is that the town’s grass mowers are obviously responsible for picking all this up! How can they? How does the deer poop get disposed of - recycling?
The Western Wheel poll is a sampling of public opinion intended solely to allow our readers to express themselves on issues of the day. Its findings may not be representative of the general population of Okotoks and Foothills or other areas.

Waiting for the day when a kid gets attacked and injured. Only then will this woke council do something.
What a goof. Move to the city if it's so bothersome to you. Going outside must just hurt for you some days.

Paul is crazy and seldom leaves his house.
He was complaining about squirrels attacking kids last year
Don’t listen to him

I keep saying that but people like Paul keep moving here unfortunately
