Okotoks has proven to be the right fit for a pet grooming business that goes the extra mile.
The Lady and The Tramps took home the gold medal in the Best Pet Grooming category in the Western Wheel Readers’ Choice Awards for the second year in a row, a feather in the cap of a salon that’s been in the community for over five years.
“It blew up way faster than I expected, there are seven of us working here now, including myself,” said salon owner Shanea Pederson. “It’s busy and there’s a lot of dogs down here.
“You have Okotoks, High River, people come from Olds.”
The salon has evolved from an at-home business in Fort McMurray eight years ago before Pederson moved to the Okotoks area in 2019 and got things going at a previous location.
The full-service dog grooming salon set up shop at 7-109 Stockton Point, the former home of the Okotoks Food Bank, in 2020.
“The first three months of being here I thought I had made the wrong choice, I was not busy,” Pederson said. “And now, we’re booking four weeks out, our December is already almost fully booked.”
Pederson said the best part of the career is the experience of bathing the animals and building the connection with long-term clients.
“I find if I keep my staff happy, they keep my clients happy,” she added. “And it’s keeping our clients happy because we wouldn’t be here without them.”
