Tuesdays were the busiest day of the week for Diamond Valley Fire Rescue (DVFR) last year.

The fire department shared details about call volume, response times and types of calls it responded to in 2024.

In total, DVFR responded to 498 incidents last year. Medical calls made up 48 per cent of the total, fires made up 16 per cent and the remainder were for alarms, rescues, including car accidents, or other calls,. About two-thirds of calls occurred between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Fifty-one per cent of calls were within Diamond Valley, and the fire department averaged 10 minutes and 50 seconds from the time a 911 call was made until the first truck arrived.

Forty-nine per cent of calls were to rural areas, including Foothills County, Kananaskis or other surrounding areas, and the average response time was 20 minutes and 32 seconds.

Firefighters in Diamond Valley are on-call and respond from their home or workplace when there is an emergency, DVFR said.

On average, from the time a 911 call was made, it took 8 minutes and 12 seconds for a fire truck to be on the way.

The response time “includes such things as waking up, getting to their car, driving to the fire hall, and putting on their firefighting protective clothing,” the department said.

The department has three career staff and 42 on-call members between the two fire stations in the community.
