A Diamond Valley resident is looking to light the town up for the holidays.
Tyler Sand and his wife Lisa have a bold vision for the holiday season: a house covered in as many Christmas lights as possible.
"Call me Clark Griswold," said Sand, comparing himself to Chevy Chase's iconic character in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Although it didn't cause a power outage like in the movie, Sand's setup last year was incredibly impressive — 750 feet of lights — and he's hoping this year's is even bigger.
"It really took notice around town, put a lot of smiles on people's faces," he said. "The kids enjoy it, they're not getting any younger, just keep the magic alive."
It's a way to help get Diamond Valley into the holiday spirit and spread some positivity.
"I'm trying to bring the joy back into Christmas," said Sand. "Life is hectic, everybody's hectic and you know what? If I put up the lights and it puts a smile on everybody's face, then I did my job."
Sand put the word out about his project on Facebook, with the self-proclaimed "crazy guy" asking for Christmas lights.
"If anybody wants to donate any more lights, I will put up as much as I can," he wrote. "We've got a big place and I have more than enough room to just go nuts, so why not?"
He's got an overwhelming response so far on social media, with many Diamond Valley residents dropping off lights for the cause. He's now got over 1,000 feet of lights to put up, and he's eager for more.
Sand has big plans for the project. His house is currently undergoing renovations, but as soon as that's done, he said he'll get straight to work putting up all the lights. He's planning on doing the entire side of his house once renovations are complete and then wrapping his chimney in multi-coloured red and white lights like a candy cane.
"I've got 100-foot fence down my driveway. I've got 100-foot retaining wall. Any lights that people donate to me, I'll put them all up."
