The Diamond Valley Youth Foundation is looking to raise $20,000 for the community’s two public elementary schools when it hosts Fall Fling ’23.
Set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Flare N’ Derrick, the evening fundraiser will feature food and drink, live and silent auctions, and dancing to the music of Haggis.
Funds raised at the event will enable the schools to invite resident artists, arrange theatre productions, introduce STEM-focused programs and other experts to enrich the curriculum as well as fund field trips, transportation and update technology.
“Our mission is to raise funds and provide extra resources for the youth of our community, therefore empowering youth of all ages and from all walks of life to thrive,” said foundation president Tania Ryckman.
The group has gone from concept to one-time fundraiser to full-fledged non-profit organization in a short period of time.
“We are a group of passionate, dedicated individuals who came together to form DVYF,” said Ryckman.
“With Alberta’s current economic situation, plus the long reach of cancelled programs and mental health outcomes driven in part by COVID, we recognize the challenges faced by schools and parents in providing the best experiences for their children,” she added.
Ryckman said everything from sporting activities to playground maintenance requires additional funding, so the foundation aims to bridge the gap and ensure that all children have equal access to these enriching opportunities.
She said the foundation is “floored” by the response of the community to date as many individuals and organizations have joined the effort to empower youth and build stronger community connections.
