The Foothills Lions Club has once again demonstrated its commitment to community care with a donation of $2,350 to the Sheep River Health Trust.
The funds will directly support volunteer resources at Oilfields General Hospital, bolstering efforts to enhance patient care and services.
The donation will help the hospital’s volunteer programs, which are vital in creating a supportive environment for patients and their families. These programs rely on community contributions to enrich efforts to support patient care and services.
“The volunteers at Oilfields General Hospital are the heart of the hospital,” said Andrea Mitchell, executive director of the Sheep River Health Trust. “This generous donation from the Foothills Lions ensures we can continue to support volunteers who provide invaluable care and comfort to those in need.”
Approximately 120 people volunteered to support patients, residents and staff at Oilfields General Hospital in 2024, contributing more than 6,000 hours.
Mitchell said their efforts provide invaluable support to healthcare programs and make a significant impact on the well‐being of the community.
“We are proud to support the Sheep River Health Trust and volunteers' important work at Oilfields General Hospital. This donation is our way of expressing thanks to the dedicated volunteers who positively impact so many lives,” said Lions Club representative Penny Rohatynsky.
“As a cornerstone of our community, Oilfields Hospital deserves our support, and we’re honoured to contribute to the efforts of those who make it such an outstanding place."
Volunteers play a crucial role in easing stress and improving the experience for patients and their families by providing support in various capacities, including volunteer drivers, mealtime support, gardening, spiritual care, recreation therapy, lab and X‐ray assistance, and even comfort from furry pet therapy volunteers.
