The Western Wheel continues its tradition as an award-winning community newspaper.

The Wheel recently received four honours from the 2024 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards, including Best All-Round Newspaper in its circulation class.

Other awards for the Okotoks-based publication include Best Front Page and third place for Best Editorial Page.

Fitting Tribute, a photo by reporter/photographer Robert Korotyszyn, received third place for Best News Feature Photo.

Publisher Shaun Jessome offered kudos to the editorial staff of the paper for another year of reporting excellence.

“At this time when real facts and accurate reporting are more important than ever, it is especially gratifying to be recognized within the news industry for doing the job to which we most passionately aspire,” Jessome said.

The Wheel was runner up for Best All-Round Newspaper in 2023 but took top spot in the category the year before.

The annual awards include 27 categories that celebrate the best in community publishing from across the country.

Newspapers of similar circulation size compete against each other and are judged by a panel of industry experts.

The 2024 winners were selected from 760 entries for work published in 2023.
