September 18, 1933 – January 13, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce that Jim McCreary, of Diamond Valley, AB, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the age of 91 years.

He was such a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In his day he was a great golfer (five holes-in-one) and a great curler. Jim got tremendous enjoyment from singing along to tunes anytime he had the chance. He loved meeting with friends for breakfast at local restaurants, floor curling with friends in local leagues, and dining with friends at the Legion on Friday nights. Jim found great enjoyment with his wood carving hobby

Jim was born in Edmonton to James McCreary and Jean McNeill. He was the third of four sons. He grew up in Edmonton and Pincher Creek, lived in Calgary and Regina, made a home on an acreage in East Millarville and in the early 1980s established himself for good at two homes in Turner Valley. Just five months ago he became a resident of Silverado Creek Seniors Community in Calgary—where he was very lovingly treated.

Jim attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Alberta, later working in the paving and construction industries. He co-founded his own construction company in the 1970s then when he retired, for a number of years, he worked at the Turner Valley Golf Club. Jim was a dedicated community member and over the years he was President of the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society, an elected member of council for the Town of Turner Valley and contributed much to both the Turner Valley Golf Club and to the Oilfields Curling Club. Jim’s greatest accomplishment was as chair and member of the Turner Valley Oilfields Society, where he worked with his colleagues to get the Turner Valley gas plant the designation as a Provincial and National Historic site.

His loving wife, children, stepchildren, all their spouses, children, and grandchildren are mourning his loss. His nephews and nieces, who loved him dearly, are deeply saddened by his passing.

We would like to thank the staff at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary who treated Jim and all his family so compassionately on the day he was admitted and passed away, as well as the staff of McInnis and Holloway for kindness and care.

Memorial Services will be held at the Turner Valley Legion (121 Sunset Blvd, Diamond Valley, AB) on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Jim’s family at www.MHFH.com.

In living memory of Jim, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes.
