Channelling Canada’s passion for nation into an all-encompassing building exercise is the very best response to Trump aggression.

They say stress is a killer.

Over the past few months with all the drama in terms of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 51st state remarks, and this sense of impending dread about what will happen once tariffs come into effect next month, many Canadians are feeling deep anxiety, which is having a negative effect on their mental and physical health.

That’s why it’s important coming out of this federal election that Canadians are given a clear sense of direction and purpose, opening a pathway toward a brighter future, no matter who is declared prime minister at the end of it.

We cannot just be content to hold onto the status quo and hope we outlast Trump. Canada must embark on the most ambitious nation building project, in the spirit of mobilization during the Second World War and the construction of the cross-Canada railroad at the dawn of confederation, to meet the challenge of our times.

Whoever is elected must set a productive course for the future which includes building up our pipeline, port and shipping capacity to reach new markets outside of the United States. Whoever is elected should be spurring on an industrial strategy to build up Canada’s manufacturing of finished goods, energy production and military technology to move us to a place where we can stand more firmly on our own two feet.

Channelling Canada’s passion for nation into an all-encompassing building exercise is the very best response to Trump aggression.

There is no doubt Canada will suffer in the short term as the economy is expected to contract after tariffs are imposed, but that suffering must have meaning. It will be up to the new leadership to define an ambitious course forward where the meaning of that suffering will be a stronger and better nation emerging in time.

We'd be immediately a bit better by getting rid of that trader rat Danielle Smith. Time to bring back hangings!
