LETTER: Okotoks solar project could have used that support

Demise of Drake Landing Solar Community didn't occur overnight, yet ratepayers appear to be the last folks informed.

The Drake Landing Solar Community, billed as "Canada’s largest subdivision of energy-efficient and environmentally-responsible homes, and the continent’s first major implementation of seasonal solar thermal energy storage," is set to be fully decommissioned by December 2025.

Dear Editor,

Groundhog Day has come early with a twist.

Everyone recall how much time and money the Town of Okotoks spent trying to convince the private sector to participate in the conversion of the Okotoks Bible Camp into Iitopatopa Park?

The opposite seems to have occurred with the decommissioning of the Drake Landing Solar Community. Apparently, nothing is salvageable.

Its demise didn't occur overnight, it took place over a period of time. Ratepayers of Okotoks appear to be the last folks informed.

Are we to be exposed financially as this is cleaned up? What of the 52 homes in the subdivision? Their chosen lifestyle has been altered in a big way.

Is this a case of smoke and mirrors? A case of shoot, shovel and shut up? Is it time for an independent public inquiry?
