"Designated area"... I fredquently see groups of deer in the fields between Meadowridge School and Wedderburn. It's a great place for them, right they're not bothering anyone there! But soon, that entire area is going to be homes... with gardens and yards. Exactly where do you think deer should go then??? It's PEOPLE who keep infiltrating the wildlife areas, not the other way around. Don't want deer in your yard munching on your fallen apples? Don't plant apple trees.

I agree! Sadly, the Western Wheel is a paper that promotes wildly biased political views. I realize that this part of Alberta is die-hard conservative, anti-Liberal, NDP or Green policies, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE follows that mindset. It would be nice to read FACTUAL, informative articles instead of a constant stream of one-sided "bash the Feds/Liberals/NDP." All the complaints about schools, healthcare, highways, etc, etc... that's not the town's responsibility, it's provincial. As long as people keep voting in provincial conservatives, none of that is going to get better. Sadly, John Barlow doesn't use his platform to do anything other than flaunt his love of Poilievre and bash the Liberals... isn't he supposed to represent ALL of his constituents?

Maybe if Poilievre, Smith and the Conservatives didn't spend their time echoing Fox News and trump's favorite habits of childish name-calling, personal insults, unfounded "blame everyone but me", take no responsibility, targeting vulnerable minorities, immigrants and anyone who believes in modern medicine and science... they wouldn't have so much trouble trying to shed their "maple maga" personas and trump aligned political idealogy!

Sigh... Yet another example of why sometimes it's embarrassing to be an Albertan. Are these the same idiots who put up a billboard with a picture of Smith happily standing with trump and promoting the heinous, insulting "51st State" thing?

There's absolutely no reason for the "set to launch in a couple weeks" delay. So typical of the ucp... let the stores and people do all the front line work, then step up to take the credit. She's terrified to offend trump. Smith has a long way to go to repair the damage her taxpayer funded holiday to Mar a Lago and Trump's inauguration did. She still isn't 100% onboard with protecting Canada, with her little dig at "no gov't controls Alberta" in her statement yesterday. The other premiers are stepping up to defend Canada as a whole, while she keeps chipping away at her dream of Alberta's independence.

Today's "conservative platform" promoted by Smith and Poilievre don't echo Conservative values, they are lock stepped with trump's maga values. It is abundantly clear how that is destroying the US, both domestically and internationally. There is no "perfect" politician or political platform, but only a fool would want to see Canada follow the path of the conservative agenda. Alberta's weakness is that it is NOT a diverse economy, it is tied much too tightly to Big Oil. Smith is a mimic of trump, in that she consistently takes no personal responsibilty for any scandals or policy failures, and relies on always blaming others and the federal govt. She would be thrilled to become part of the US.

Okotoks woefully "underservices" it's senior population, despite having proof that it is a significant and growing segment of the population. Physical limitations can occur at anytime, and not every scenario qualifies for a disability permit, despite how difficult it might be for someone to get around. Not all disabilities are mobility related either. It could be a cardiac or respiratory condition. If a child can walk... they should use that ability at every opportunity and a few extra steps shouldn't be an issue for any parent.

Trump wants control of the vast Canadian resources and would also give Putin access to them, along with control of the Northwest Passage. Trump's subserviance to Putin, would make Canada, Russia's boots on the ground access to all of North, Central and South America. Remember this, Canada... Pollievre and Smith parrot Trump's agenda. Their recent attempts to pivot to Canadian solidarity are lies and just trying to hang on to voters.

No one can trust ANYTHING that this current ucp government does to actually be in the best interests of Albertans. This "ability to earn while on AISH = ADAP" will without a doubt, be transformed into "must earn/work while on AISH"... There are many more things Smith could do for disabled Albertans, like ensuring their supported living accomodations are actually affordable, properly maintained and livable!

I'm very surprised that this article was allowed to be published! Typical Western Wheel content is so over the top UCP slanted, and it's clear that Smith and Poilievre are Covid/Health/Science deniers. Thank you, Brett McKay for your bravery in reporting facts about the reality that Covid is still an active disease that is harming many vulnerable people's health and safety.
