Diamond Valley's monthly non-profit concert series will see a familiar face take the stage this weekend.
Calgary singer-songwriter Steve Pineo, who has worked with country icons such as Paul Brandt and Prairie Oyster, is excited to return to Beneath the Arch and debut his band's new show.
"I've been playing around Alberta since the late '80s," said Pineo. "I've been to Beneath the Arch about four or five times, so this will be the first time with the Prohibition Hall Show.
"I call it Prohibition Hall, which is kind of a play on words on Preservation Hall, which is where they play the vintage jazz down in New Orleans, and prohibition because it's the prohibition era."
Pineo's band is composed of tuba player Derek Stoll, pianist Jon Day, flute player Cedric Blary and violinist Darcy Stamp.
"It'll be a combination of vintage jazz and then some country swing and some blues, some Latin-sounding stuff, and a lot of my own material," he said.
Pineo is a versatile artist, regularly playing guitar and harmonica at sold-out shows in addition to his singing. His Elvis tribute performance, which he has brought to Beneath the Arch in the past, is considered iconic by many across the province.
"I've been going to Turner Valley and Black Diamond for many years now," said Pineo. "I love playing down at Beneath the Arch. It's always good, the treatment. You're always treated really well by the people that run it and the audience."
Pineo and band will take the Flare n' Derrick stage on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available here.
